Abdication, Reclamation, Restoration - Understanding The American Covenant & Our Role In Leadership
Over the last few weeks, we’ve tackled the topic of Romans 13 - unlimited submission - and what scripture actually says about our role in the culture.
As we begin this week, it’s important to remember a few things:
We ARE called to be engaged with the culture
We ARE called to be involved in government as leaders
We ARE called to speak out on tough topics, regardless of how uncomfortable they are
These things line up clearly with scripture, and the word of God is very clear on our marching orders:
Remember who’s in charge.
As the Lord tells us in 1 Samuel 8:5-9:
5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”
6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.
7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.
8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”
What happens when we don’t remember who’s in charge.
When the church body ABDICATES (abandons or renounces) leadership, we are no longer the moral compass for the culture, which leads to the society that we see today.
As we are told in Isaiah 3:12:
12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
We need to remember who we are.
When we cede territory to the enemy, we forget about what we were told about who we are as Salt & Light.
As we are told in 1 Peter 2:9:
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
This week in Orlando, FL, Author Eric Metaxas, Historian Bill Federer, & Chip Moore of Turning Point USA stood up and answered the call with important events that set the tone. We’ll take you inside of those events after this.

Letter To The American Church - A Special Evening With Eric Metaxas
For Eric Metaxas, helping the Church to understand the critical time that we’re in is serious business.
In a special pastor Q&A session prior to the screening of the new movie, Letter To The American Church, Metaxas talked about his awakening, including the impact of Os Guinness’ book, A Free People's Suicide.
“I'm not a constitutional scholar like my friend Jenna Ellis. I hadn't really thought about this. And I came to understand reading Os's book and I thought, okay, Freedom means self government, right? You govern yourself. You're not governed from without. You're not governed from above. It's not that you're not told what to do by a tyrant or a deep state bureaucracy. You're not governed by anybody. You govern yourself. The founders thought that it might be possible for people to be free to govern themselves,” said Metaxas.
“Now, you understand this has never happened in the history of the world. So anyone who says America is not special is an idiot because, of course, it's special. This has never happened in the history of the world. So, for us not to appreciate what we've had here is really horrifying. It's sinful. It's wrong. What we have here is special. It's unique.”
Metaxas covered a number of topics during the Q&A session, including the correlations in both the book and the movie between the German Church of the 1930’s and today, particularly the thought that Churches should be subservient to the state and if he believed that thought process was true today.
“Well, I think it's true in many, many evangelical churches, I assume not in this one or I wouldn’t be here… but yes, many evangelical churches. Listen, this is a fundamental misunderstanding. I mean, it's it's, it's astonishing. That I mean, again, the level of ignorance, it should scare us that we have an American population that has spent decades not learning history and civics so that we would think that we're supposed to roll over for the state,” said Metaxas.
“It happened in Germany while the Kaiser was friendly to faith. But when Hitler came in, they weren't prepared, kind of like watching Biden last night looking at why they've never seen, you know, all the Presidents they have respect for the institutions and respect for the period and they say God Bless America at the end of it.
Well, we’re in a new day now. You're in a boat alone with a madman and you have to understand this is a new thing. But the Germans have this tradition, which we've had in this country where church and state, we kind of get along.
Well, suddenly you don't get along and you better wake up now… we're not getting along, something dark has happened. That state is the enemy of the church. The state wants to crush the church.”
We Are The Watchmen Weekly publisher, Julianna Ormond, also shared her thoughts with Metaxas.
“My grandparents ran from Nazi Germany… ran from Hitler. My husband and I started a market research company. And when we started seeing things, we said, You know what, America is in trouble. And we must warn the people.” said Ormond.
“We started traveling with the Liberty Pastors movement and The America Renewal Project and other organizations to see what was going on and why the pastors weren't engaging. And what we realized was some of the topics were really touchy, like transhumanism. Why, you know, men who think that they're women.
So we're talking about, you know, taking the ovaries out of female cadavers to put them into men who think that they are women… I'm sorry that I have to say these things in front of everybody. But these things are actually happening. And the church really needs to wake up to the war that we're in.
So I’m really appreciative of what you've done with with waking up the church. The pastors are having a hard time talking about all of this because it’s a lot more than just what's happening with our government.”
“Well yeah, it is with everything. And we, I mean, look, it's why I wrote the book, and it's why we make a film because I know that the people that just not going to read a book and we we have to do everything we can… we're offering this film free to any church that wants to do a screening. Think about that. And that's not a smart marketing move. Right? But it's about saving America, for God's purposes,” Metaxas replied.
“But we're in a war for everything. The whole world is at stake, not just America, because America is the bellwether nation for this chosen time for us to hold the torch of liberty. And if we go down, which we are doing, it's over. And so the church is whom God has called in the midst of America to stand up.”

Who Is The King In America? Bill Federer Reminds Us Of Who We Are
On March 7th, Bill Federer spoke with pastors and other faith leaders at the Holy Trinity Green Orthodox Church in the Orlando, FL suburb of Maitland.
And the message was crystal clear.
“Now, I just want to point out three things real quick,” said Federer.
“Nationalism is the opposite of globalism. There are globalists George Soros and (Klaus) Schwab and they hate people that want to preserve their nations.
Nationalism depends on the nation and so if you're in a socialist country, like the USSR, there are no individual rights. In America, we're a nation guaranteeing rights from a creator and government from the consent of the governed. In other words, you get to be in charge of your life.
And then finally, Christian nationalism used to be called Christian patriotism and every President… Democrat or Republican… encouraged it.”
Federer continued, discussing the method of the enemy.
“And so… they are doing something called psychological projection… where they blame you for what they're guilty of. Potiphar's wife accused Joseph of lusting after her but she was lusting after him,” said Federer.
And so they want to set up a woke nationalism… and that's sort of interesting. Rockefeller is bankrolling LGBTQ people to be activists. And they're bankrolling an ‘After Party’ Bible study curriculum for woke churches to tell them not to get involved. What a brilliant strategy! You tell your activist to get involved and you can tell your opponents not to get involved.”
Federer also provided an extensive look at world history, including the idea of self government, and how the idea of “church and state” got twisted.
They (the pilgrims) were going to go to Virginia, but they get blown off course in a storm and they land in Massachusetts. They actually try sailing south, but off the coast of Cape Cod is really shallow. And so the captain goes back to Plymouth Rock and says it's too dangerous to sail everybody off the boat, and they say we have a question.
Who's going to be in charge? We were gonna go to Virginia and submit to the kings government. You're telling us to get off the boat who's gonna be in charge They do something unique. It's called the Mayflower Compact.
It says we, in the presence of God covenant ourselves together into a civil body politic. You have a church group covenanting itself into a civil body politic.”
“So let's take this apart. 1517 Martin Luther starts the Reformation because he has a personal experience. That the just shall live by faith… very, very personal to him… so much so, he was willing to stand up to the most powerful guy in the world… The Holy Roman Emperor,” said Federer.
“But some German princes want a break from Rome, and they go ‘this is our chance.’ And so a revival movement starts called Pietism. That being a Christian is more than state doctrine… even if it's good state doctrine… and you won't do the worldly things you used to do like go to bars and brothels and get involved in government. This is where that idea came from… that our church is a little more spiritual than your church because we just preach the gospel.”
“So, that idea that did not come from, Calvinists, Puritan, Baptist, Presbyterian Quakers that founded America that said, ‘Look, everybody, let's all get involved, we can rule ourselves without a king. It's a covenant for government, but everybody has to show up in church and everybody has to show up at that city government meeting.
So Romans 13 is understood differently in a Monarchy than in a Republic. In a monarchy subjects submit to the king. In a Republic, the citizens ARE the King! The word citizen is Greek, it means co-king, co ruler, co sovereign, meaning citizens give consent.”
