AI ‘jesus’: Dangerous Deception in the Name of Technology

Today, we are faced with an increasing effort to merge artificial intelligence (AI) with faith. As we’ve discussed in prior pieces (Click Here) this is VERY dangerous territory.
A recent article from the Associated Press (AP), titled “AI chatbot creates ‘jesus’ in latest effort to bring tech and faith together,” discusses a controversial project in Switzerland to develop an AI chatbot modeled after Jesus Christ.
The creators of this project claim that the AI “jesus” will be able to answer questions, provide guidance, and engage in conversation with users, all while referencing scripture and offering counsel.
And it was tested over the summer with over 900 people, in person, in a confessional booth.
However, this attempt to digitize the divine is deeply problematic, as it represents not only a theological error but also a grave spiritual danger.
The notion of a man-made creation like AI standing in for The Father, or The Son, is not just misguided—it is a direct affront to the nature of The Father as revealed in scripture.
The Bible warns against trying to reduce the divine to human understanding or man-made constructs, and this AI jesus project does just that.

The Creation of an “AI jesus:” A Deceptive Imitation of Christ
At the heart of the Christian faith is the belief that the Father became incarnate in the person of Jesus Christ. He lived among us, fully Father and fully man, to reveal the Father, teach truth, and ultimately offer Himself as the sacrifice for humanity’s sins.
The idea of an AI jesus is an attempt to replace the divine, incarnate Christ with a faceless, mechanical substitute.
From the article:
"The chatbot version of Jesus can answer questions about the Bible and offer counsel to users, making it a potentially controversial step toward bringing faith into the digital age."
Commentary: The use of AI to simulate Christ’s presence and guidance is a dangerous step into idolatry. Exodus 20:4-5 clearly forbids the creation of any image or likeness of The Father:
"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, nor any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the waters beneath the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God."
This commandment prohibits the creation of any form of god—whether physical or virtual—because the Father is beyond human comprehension and cannot be reduced to anything we make.
The idea of creating an AI jesus is a direct violation of this command, as it attempts to craft a false, human-made version of the Father.
Let’s continue.
From The Article:
"But this is not the first time AI has been used in faith-based projects. Previous efforts have included AI tools to read the Bible, provide spiritual guidance, and even ‘speak’ as various religious figures."
Commentary: The attempt to employ it as a means to represent Christ or convey spiritual truth is inherently flawed. The Bible teaches that there is only one true mediator between the Father and man, and it is not technology, nor is it a chatbot.
1 Timothy 2:5 affirms this truth:
"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."
Jesus Christ is the only true mediator. No AI, no matter how advanced, can replace the role of Christ as the one who intercedes on behalf of humanity. By creating a digital version of Christ, this project attempts to usurp His unique and unrepeatable role in salvation, offering a counterfeit version of a Savior who is irreplaceable. This presents a dangerous shift in how we view our relationship with the Father.
Let’s continue.
From The Article:
"The chatbot Jesus is programmed to respond to people’s queries, but what happens when the algorithm is misused, or when it begins to manipulate or distort the teachings of Christ?"
Commentary: One of the greatest dangers of this AI jesus is the potential for manipulation and distortion of biblical truth. Technology is ultimately incapable of discerning truth the way the Holy Spirit does, because it is created by man.
As scripture warns, the devil often disguises himself as an angel of light, making deception appear righteous. 2 Corinthians 11:14 cautions us:
"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."
The creation of an AI jesus is an example of the devil’s subtle work to manipulate truth. This digital representation distorts the gospel message by offering responses that sound like Christ but lack the authority, conviction, and power of the living Word of the Father.
The danger lies not just in offering a mechanical imitation, but in the possibility that people may begin to rely on this AI version rather than the true Christ revealed in Scripture.
Pulling It Together: The Danger of Replacing The Father with Technology
The Bible consistently warns against putting our trust in idols or human-made creations to replace the Father. The very notion of creating an AI jesus highlights the dangerous temptation to reshape the Father in our own image, attempting to fit Him into something we can understand or control.
As we are told in Jeremiah 10:14:
"They have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us."
This is the very essence of idolatry—turning to a created object, image, or construct instead of turning to the living Father.
In trying to create an AI jesus, we are attempting to reshape the Father into something we can control. But the Father is beyond our manipulation. His Word stands eternal, unchanging, and full of power. By reducing Jesus to an artificial creation, we violate His sovereignty and diminish the very essence of who He is.
