Discernment In Difficult Times: Holding Out-Of-Control Leaders Accountable
In last weeks edition of the newsletter, we covered the importance of clearly understanding Romans 13:1-5, and our call as believers to call out, and stand up to, tyrannical/out of control authority when it is out of line with God’s word.
We also covered Ephesians 6:12 from the Geneva Bible (not the King James Bible for a very apparent reason if you compare the two), as we are told by Apostle Paul exactly who, and what, we are up against:
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, AGAINST WORDLY GOVERNORS, THE PRICNES OF THE DARKNESS OF THIS WORLD, against spiritual wickedness, which are in the high places.
This week, we’ll take a look at things that are happening right now that require not only our attention, but also our action, right after this.

The Shell Game, Revisited
Let’s begin with a quick highlight from last week’s edition, including a baseline understanding of Romans 13:1-5:
13:1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.
4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
So this begs the question: What if those in authority are not doing the will of God?
“Sadly, the majority of preachers, pastors and politicians have been ignorantly or intentionally shackling the people for years with what I believe to be a flawed interpretation of Rom 13 – especially as it applies to the form of government we have in these United States,” says Pastor Dan Fisher.
“Consequently, people have generally come to believe that they would be sinning if they ever defied the government, no matter how evil it may have become. They mistakenly believe that they, especially if they are Christians, owe slavish, unlimited submission to all authorities. Is this actually what Paul was teaching in Rom 13?”
A good question. What we discovered is that the Bible actually provides numerous examples of committed believers not only defying governmental authority, but also receiving the approval of God in the process.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at a few examples that you should be aware of:
The Curious Case of Wycliffe Publishing
In the November 25th edition of We Are The Watchmen Weekly, we re-shared the story of Wycliffe Publishing and the changing of language in bibles sent to the nation of Turkey:
During the process of putting together this week’s edition of We Are The Watchmen, we were reminded by readers of the compromises made in the past regarding the word, and we believe that this is relevant to this week’s edition.
Back in 2011, Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Summer Institute of Linguistics decided to make changes to bible translations.
From The Christian Post:
A controversial decision by a number of Bible translation companies to remove the terms "Father" and "Son" from Arabic Bible versions is stirring a debate over the importance of semantics.
The words "Father," "Son" and "Holy Spirit" are integral to preserving the true meaning of the Gospel and should never be tampered with, some ministries say.
But some Bible translation organizations – such as Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), have argued that in certain cultures, keeping the literal translation creates the wrong context and does not portray the relationship between God and Jesus Christ correctly.
Controversy is swirling around the Arabic and Turkish translations of the Bible. The word "Father" is replaced with "Allah" (meaning God in Arabic), while "Son" becomes "Messiah."
The reason for this modification, both Wycliffe and SIL say in similar statements released which address the concern, is so that Muslim readers of the Bible are not confused into thinking that the relationship between God and Jesus is a physical father-and-son one, where God is the biological father of Jesus.
Take a moment to let that sink in…
Now, let’s take a look at what scripture says about this:
Ye shall put nothing unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye take ought there from, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
And, in Revelation 22:18-19 it says:
18 For I protest unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.
19 And if any man shall diminish of the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy City, and from those things which are written in this book.
Self Text Questions:
Based on this information, is it OK for Wycliffe to unilaterally change God the Father’s name, YWHW, to Allah, and God the Son’s name, Jesus Christ, to Messiah only, and God the Holy Spirit’s name, to just Spirit, eliminating the triune God-Head relationship between the three?
Is it OK that, as believers, we look the other way to this level of blasphemy ?
The answer is obviously NO.

American On Drugs
In many countries around the world, what’s acceptable in the US is BANNED… including drugs.
